Law and Order

  • There were four sources of Muslim laws, Quran, Hadith (collection of statements and works of the Prophet), Ijma and Qayas.
  • The jurists who administer Islamic laws are called Mujtahids (legalists).
  • Ijma -The law interpreted by Mujtahid is considered to be a form of the will of Allah This source of law is called Ijma.
  • The interpretation of law based on speculative reasoning or analysis is called Qayas.
  • General Law -These laws were applicable only to Muslims But in terms of trade etc., both on Muslims and non-Muslims applied equally.
